Package Itinerary

Bishkek - Tamchi village – Karakol – Bokonbaevo and the high pasture – Kochkor – Naryn – Bishkek

Day 1 

Flight to Bishkek. Relaxed afternoon to rest after long flight.  Visit to the National Museum of Fine Art. Dinner in a restaurant serving traditional Kyrgyz food. Accommodations: Stay in 3* hotel.

Day 2 

Bishkek city tour. Morning: Visit the Osh market, Manas and Ala-Too squares. And doll making studio. Afternoon, textile workshop in AIDAI’s studio, learning how she makes silk-and-felt hand-rolled scarves.  Also visit to Tumar studio. Dinner at Supara, Kyrgyz ethnographic park. Accommodations: Stay in 3* hotel.

Day 3 

Travel from Bishkek to Lake Issyk-Kul by van. Drive to second largest mountain lake in the world. On the way, visit Burana tower, 10th century settlement on Great Silk Road. Spend night in village on north shore of the Lake Issyk Kul, Tamchy village. Accommodations: homestay at the lake shore.

Day 4 

Karakol. Drive along the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul to the town of Karakol, at the eastern end of the Lake. Visit petroglyph site along the way, ancient drawings on the stones dated 2,000-3,000 BC.)  Visit old Orthodox Church and mosque in Karakol and felt studio of Temirbek Asanov  and Gulnara Kadyrmysheva. Demonstration of felt making.  Truly delicious Dungun feast for dinner. Accommodations: homestay in Karakol.

Day 5 

Jety Oguz and Barskoon. Drive along the south shore of Lake Issyk Kul, stopping along the way at picturesque mountain gorge, Jety Oguz. Spend afternoon in village of Barskoon, visit to master yurtmakers studio. Also free time on the Lake beach or walking in the mountains in the afternoon. (Horseback riding can also be arranged for an additional charge.) Accommodations: small bed and breakfast.

Day 6 

Kaji-Sai Continue along south shore of Lake Issyk-Kul to Kaji-Sai village. Afternoon: tour in a relaxed way to surrounding villages and meet traditional feltmakers. Accommodations: homestay

Day 7 

Jailoo – jailoo is the Kyrgyz word for pasture. We will travel up to  the pasture with the family, where shepherds live in yurts for the summer with their flocks. We will be part of life in the jailoo – milking the horse, cooking traditional foods, eagle hunting. Accommodation: stay in yurts in jailoo.

Day 8 

Jailoo – enjoy traditional horse games. Ride in games if you feel so inclined. Return to village of Kaji Sai for the evening Accommodation: homestay in Kaji Sai

Day 9 

Kaji Sai, Ton, Kochkor – Drive to Kochkor, stopping in Ton to visit site of Aidai’s shop and yurt-making village. Continue to village of Kochkor, home of handicraft cooperative, Altyn Kol. Accommodation: homestay in Kochkor

Day 10 

Kyrgyz felt rugs are called shyrdak. This day is dedicated to the tradition of shyrdak making. Shyrdak making demonstration in Kochkor. Visit master shyrdak maker’s home. Visit quiltmakers’ shop. Accommodation: homestay in Kochkor

Day 11

Kochkor, Naryn, Tash Rabat – Spectacular drive over Dolon Pass (3030m). Lunch in Naryn. Continue via At-Bashi valley to Tash-Rabt, Silk Road historic site. Overnight in yurts near the caravan sarai. Accommodations: yurts

Day 12

Return to Naryn. Visit traditional craft makers in Naryn.  Accommodation: homestay in Naryn.

Day 13

Naryn-Bishkek. Drive back to Bishkek. Long drive.

Day 14

Morning transfer to the airport for departure.

  •  Weather in Tash-Rabat, Barscoon Gorge and some other altitude areas of the Kyrgyz Republic is quite cold, therefore it is necessary to have warm jackets
